Kostarisk joint research laboratory has received government funding managed by the French National Research Agency under the France 2030 Investment Plan (ref. ANR-16-IDEX-0002).

KostariskA cross-border joint research laboratory dedicated to coastal risks

Kostarisk is dedicated to applied research on the observation and modeling of coastal risks. It federates the researchers from the SIAME laboratory of the University of Pau and Pays de l’Adour (Anglet, France), the technological centre AZTI (Pasaia, Spain), and the ocean monitoring and forecasting center Rivages Pro Tech of Suez (Bidart, France).

The objective of Kostarisk (kosta meaning “coast” in Basque) is to implement a scientific and technological cooperation in the fields of coastal monitoring, numerical modeling and advanced data analysis, for the development of knowledge and tools to support the management and mitigation of coastal risks.

The creation of this joint research laboratory took place in a context of increasing exposure of coastlines to coastal hazards such as marine submersion and erosion, exacerbated by the effects of climate change. Managing these risks has become a major challenge for coastal communities and, more broadly, for public authorities. In response to this pressing issue, Kostarisk aims to provide new solutions through an original partnership and the development of innovative approaches.
