The RESCUER project (Resilient Solutions for Coastal, Urban, Estuarine and Riverine Environments) is a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Action (MSCA) Doctoral Network funded by the EU. It aims to train 11 PhD researchers to address climate-related risks such as flooding, erosion, and water quality degradation.

The project combines hydrodynamics, data science, remote sensing, and modeling to develop innovative, nature-based and technological solutions. RESCUER promotes interdisciplinary research and strong collaboration between academia, industry, and public authorities to enhance resilience in vulnerable environments across Europe.

As part of RESCUER, UPPA and RPT especially collaborates in two PhD projects, one hosted at UPPA (V. Loras-Herrero) and one hosted at RPT (P. Pietiakainen), the latyer also involving AZTI as an associated partner. Both PhD projects aim at developing cutting-edge numerical modelling techniques and tools to study wave dynamics and processes in the nearshore area, with a wide range of applications from tracer dispersion to coastal flooding.
